Here we are again. We have heard it said so many times that life is a cycle: the hours, the days, the weeks, the months... everything passes and everything returns. Like our beloved festival that has become the unmissable event (as the cheesy ones would say) of the springs (in the past, of the autumns). It has been running for twenty-eight years: in this time it has grown, reinvented itself, and consolidated itself. Some of us have been there from the beginning, others have joined along the way, there are those who have yet to arrive, but we will wait for them. Some of us have left early (Peter Ignatius, in memoriam).
The format of the festival is well-known: concerts in the hall, the street party, jazz for the little ones, masterclasses, picnics, the meeting of lindy-hop dancers, the opportunity for younger musicians... Everything and everyone, as is customary.
Everyone is welcome. It can't be any other way: music, jazz in this case, only makes sense when performers and listeners are close: some to be able to decipher the mystery hidden behind a piece of music; others to put into practice the disconcerting ability to, through improvisation, make every night different, even if the musicians and the repertoire are the same. We have learned that this is the grace (the risk, cowards would say) of going to a jazz concert: no two will be the same.
And we will continue to search for swing, that quality that is so difficult to define but that gives meaning to this music: a harmonic movement that goes from the inside out, from the music to its perception. Some have said that swing is also a characteristic that makes some people special: elegance in movements, harmony of body and spirit, unlearned grace... And you can't look for it: you either have it or you don't. Menorca Jazz Festival has swing. Are you in?
